Plastic heat exchanger for medical purposes

Abstract

Functional sample of plastic heat exchanger was designed and constructed for research of influencing of blood clotting in the extracorporeal circuit by changing its temperature. Heat exchanger has specific properties which distinguish it from other heat exchangers used in healthcare.

For purposes of this research has the heat exchanger required performance and is made of medical certified plastic that does not activate the clotting cascade. The heat exchanger is compact plastic tubular device with two hose connections and two quick coupling connectors.

The hose connections with Luer endings are used for connection of tempered liquid circuit. Quick coupling connections on the sides of the device are used to connect to the circuit of tempering fluid.

It also includes ports for installation of sensors for monitoring temperature of tempered liquid on input and output of the heat exchanger.
