The article attempts to give an interpretation of the main ideas of Jindrich Kohn, one of the outstanding exponents of the movement of the Czech Jew assimilation movement, whose activities covered the areas of politics, public enlightenment and journalism. Kohn's thought is placed in the context of the ideas of T.
G. Masaryk, whose influence on him was very strong.
Kohn understands "the Jew question" included in "the Czech question", to the degree in which the Czech question is understood in its European and universal dimensions. The assimilation does not mean for Kohn vanishing of Jewishness in the Czech nation; it means integration in the whole society aiming to the ideal of humanity in accordance with the Masaryk's project.
The humanity is no real fact; it just has to be built up - if not, a catastrophe will follow. A special meaning for Kohn's ideal of the Czech nation has the figure of J.
A. Comenius, in whose work he finds the fruits of the Jewish Christianity, vital for the Europe.
