Azerbaijan is undergoing a slow reconstruction of its security and defence sector. In context of a significant militarization of the South Caucasus and Caspian region the Azerbaijani security policy is facing a set of challenges including a frozen conflict with a neighbouring Armenia, geopolitical tensions with Russia and with Iran.
Azerbaijan has been developing relations with the EU, NATO, US, and is present in regional multilateral organizations. The potential risks include geopolitical power shifts, Islamic fundamentalism, terrorism, separatism, organized crime, and climate change, too.
