Examinations for Teaching at Secondary School (before the Imperial German Commission)

Abstract

In this article we want to draw attention to the special examinations, so called Prüfungskomission für das Lehramt an Mittelschulen [Examinations for Teaching at Secondary School], which were passed in Prague before the Imperial German Commission in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, and which qualified the candidates for their appointments as German high school mathematics teachers. We will describe the fundamental archival documents which give us the complex information about the structure, course, content and difficulties of these examinations.

One typical example and complete statistics of the examinations in mathematics will be presented.
