The auxiliary verb tenere in Romance languages

Abstract

The paper focuses on the problematics of the auxiliary verb in Romance languages. The aim of the study is to investigate which Romance languages use the auxiliary verb tenere and which the other verbs (habere, esse).

The influence of the auxiliary verb tenere on the compound perfect is also examinated. On the basis of the selection of the auxiliary verb a new classification of Romance languages is proposed.
