Abstract

This article summarizes the experience of the application of the three-year training program of fitness training of elite long distance runners. In accordance with the literature, we concluded that all-round fitness training aimed at developing strength, flexibility and coordination is an essential part of the training process of elite runners and must be integral part of the training plan during the annual macrocycle with primary emphasis on the development of the first preparatory period.

Before the intervention, it is necessary to identify with the relevant tests the strengths and weaknesses of each athlete and the results then purposefully conceive this versatile fitness training, as documented examples of applied training resources and tests. At the same time it must be ensured that the especially strength training do not negative influence on the runners technique, but rather lead to its improvement.
