Abstract

In his article "Who thinks abstractly?", Hegel defines the central concepts of his philosophy - the abstract and the concrete - and relates these to his understanding of thinking. The abstract thought is based on the category of generality and is rather a sign of the uneducated mind than of the educated: The educated person is able to ward off empty generalizations and recognize in the singular a concrete reality rather than an instance of the universal.
