The study presents the results of our literary research that summarizes the approaches to the concept of "aboutness" in information science, examining the reasons for the current renewed interest in the semantics of information and knowledge-processing and the consequent efforts to develop new approaches and solutions. The paper is divided into three parts.
The first part summarizes the semantic issues of content analysis. Using our own model, the concept of "aboutness" is presented, for which there is no equivalent in Czech terminology, being instead loosely expressed by other terms, such as topic, content, subject, meaning, theme, sense, and genre.
The second part presents the opinions of several authorities in the field of information science on the subject-matter. The third part situates the concept of "aboutness" into FRSAD model.
