Abstract

The article presents results concerning the intake of iron by a group of 214 infants aged 6-11 months old, and 216 children aged 24-35 months, who participated in the Czech snutrition multicenter study of children aged 6--35 months. Twenty-two percent of children from these two groups had a daily average intake of iron is less than 80% of the recommended daily allowance (that is 8 mg), 10% of infants even 3 mg or less.

It is therefore important to emphasize the need for good dietary sources of iron from the very beginning of weaning.
