Electrochemical behavior of oxygen-terminated BDD electrodes was investigated using cyclic voltammetry in different aqueous and mixed aqueous-organic media. The influence of boron concentration, pH and composition of the electrolyte on the width of the potential window was investigated.

It is inversely dependent on the doping level. Further, addition of methanol causes significant narrowing of the potential window at the anodic side, contrary to addition of acetonitrile.

These results demonstrate that for electroanalytical purposes, proper choice of BDD electrode and supporting electrolyte is important especially when considering detection of analytes undergoing electro oxidation or reduction at high anodic or cathodic potentials.
