This publication describes reading comprehension in groups of readers with risks involving students whose skills (incl. reading comprehension) can be compromised. Findings collected in this study are based on the GAČR research project "Reading Comprehension - Typical Development and its Risks" and cover its second part (the first one was focused on reading comprehension progress of children with typical development).
The compiled text is structured in accordance with clinical groups of students that were identified as the most frequent risk groups from the standpoint of potential reading difficulties, incl. reading comprehension. The result consists of four distinctive chapters addressing reading comprehension of children with specific learning disorder (dyslexia), children with specific language impairment (SLI), children with autistic spectrum disorders, and that of poor readers.
The reading difficulties classification is also proved by the simple model of reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986) that was used. Respective chapters offer a summary and a critical analysis of both Czech and international bibliographical sources and information on the research task methodology.
Research diagnostic tools are also presented. In each clinical group a suitability of research approaches was verified within the pilot study.
This became the foundations for four case studies of students with difficulties in reading. Diagnostic tools are presented in the appendix.
