Abstract
Article describes the long history of development of cardiac surgery in Hradec Kralove, where the basic points of this specialization in CSR started. In this respect is mentioned personality of Jan Bedrna, who performed first successful cardiosurgical operation in CSR.
There is mentioned most important milestones of development. It is described contemporary level and current tasks of department.
To this belong the valve preserving procedures on the aortic valve and minimally invasive access in mitral valve surgery and in coronary surgery. In the last years there is annually performed about 800 - 900 cardiosurgical procedures per year.
The results prove that present level of department is on good standard of developed countries. The department had also important role in development of surgery of lung.
Prof. Jaroslav Prochazka started early with modern anatomical lung resection.
