Representation of peritoneal dialysis (PD) in the treatmant of patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) is highly variable across Europe. Desprite proven benefits of peritoneal dialysis, especially in first years of dialysis, the utilization of PD is inadequate in many countries, including Czech republic.
Some aspects can be better understood if we look back into history of PD. Causes can be divided into economic and medical.
Some of these factors are described in more detail. The purpose is to show reserves in the detection of patients, education and other issues.
Focus is especially on groups of patients who could benefit from PD treatment but they are not taken into consideration.
