Abstract
There are man competitions which have motivation potential. We have an unique opportunity to study the Biology Olympiad which has nearly 50 years tradition in Czehc Republic.
We wanted to find out what were the factors which caused pupils' participation in the Biology Olympiad. Semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire were used.
The participants in the Biology Olympiad were compared with other pupils interested in biology.
