The contribution is devoted to the period of the development of classical geometries in the sense of the Erlangen's programm of Felix Klein in the field of local differential geometry. The first part is devoted to the theory of curves, which was very succesful.
This is in a very strong contrast to the theory of surfaces, which is very complicated and difficult. In spite of this, many mathematicians all over the world spent lots of time with strong effort.
The contribution of Czech mathematitions in this subject is not negligible, as the most famous is cited Eduard Czech, who colaborated with Q. Fubini.
In spite of the large number of important results in this field all results are today almost completely forgotten.
