Abstract

Existence of St. Wenceslaus cult in the Our Lady chapel at Nuremberg is among medievists well known.

It's confirmed by written records (particularly copy of consecration deed to the altar of St. Wenceslas) and a monumental statue of the Czech saint in the church.

However, a closer study of the literature brings many uncertainties and new questions. At first, therefore, we pay attention to major source for the history of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Nuremberg, called Saalbuch and written by Stefan Schuler in 1442.

Subsequently, we examine the question of the dedication of the altar of St. Wenceslaus and all other documents which show the growing cult of St.

Wenceslaus in Nuremberg (sculptural monuments, relics, indulgences deed, the liturgy of the Feast of St. Wenceslas).
