Publication at Faculty of Education |
2014

Abstract

The contribution dealt with nowadays trends in the development of early literacy practice in primary schools, highlighting the importance and functionality of reading since the beginning of its development. Emphasis is layed on the developing of internal motivation and interest in reading.

Other characteristic features are the teaching aims transformation, variability of methods, assessment according to individual relationship standards and transformation of cooperation between parents and Educational and Psychological Counselings. The second part of the contribution was focused on the trends in pupils literacy difficulties solutions (decoding and reading comprehension).

Traditional Diagnostic-Therapeutic model, which was built mainly in conection with solving difficulties of students with specific learning disabilities, has at present situation some gaps (premature diagnosis, high numbers of pupils with specific learning disabilities, emphasis layed on diagnosis, less room for intervention). Recommended Preventive Intervention Model consists of immediate solution of pupils difficulties directly in the school environment, with the supportive function of advisory service provided by school.

At this stage, School Counselling Office can also provide consulting model support for pupils with incipient problems in the literacy development.
