The topic of violence does not repesent a principal topic of historiography of the Jesuit missiones, but it was present there in various forms. The conflict of cultures provoked revolts and rebellions of the Indians and, particullary in the first time also martirdoms of the Spanish people and Fathers.
Becaus of it, they went accompanied some times of soldiers. The Spanish and Portuguese Crowns did not doubt to use regulary troops against the indigenous people (f.ex. the Treaty of Frontiers in 1750 and the Guarani Wars).
These and similar cases serve us for their classification.
