The use of lexical germanisms in teaching Czech as a foreign language

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2014

Abstract

The article deals with German loan words in the Czech language and their role in teaching Czech to German speaking foreigners. In the beginning, a short overview is given of the convergence between German and Czech, which lasted many centuries.

In Czech language courses, especially loan words which found their way into the Czech language before the end of Second World War can be utilised. The article gives examples showing how these lexemes can be employed at beginner, pre-intermediate and intermediate level.
