Noncompliance with antihypertensive treatment is a common cause of pseudo-resistant hypertension. The most accurate verification of compliance is possible by determining the concentration of antihypertensive drugs in the patient's serum.
Inadequate control of hypertension in these patients may lead to a higher risk of cardiovascular events. Improvement of compliance can be achieved in particular by thorough education of the patient, his involvement in therapy in the form of home BP measurements and optimal antihypertensive therapy with use of fixed combinations.
