On the occasion of the Czech translation of the Works of Jorge Luis Borges (six volumes, Prague 2009-2013), the article points out his essays, translated into Czech for the first time almost in their entirety. The essential importance of this genre for Borges' works can be perceived in the presence of the essayistic principle in his short stories and his poetry.
Borges brings all the motifs to "another mental register" (Reyes), seeing things from an unusual point of view, with "romantic irony".
