If the long-term competitive sport is a vital part of the way of life of individuals, aging may not necessarily mean restriction or termination of sporting activities. In this article we present a specific population of seniors competing in Masters swimming.
Our goal is to describe the performance of the Czech swimmer of high international level that are older than 60 years, their preparation for the top competition level and assess the quality of their life. Qualitative analysis of sports training was conducted through a survey and controlled interview.
Quality of life was assessed using a standardized questionnaire "36 - item Short - Form Health Survey" (SF-36). Czech swimmers reached in comparison to common population significantly higher scores in all measured dimensions, especially in areas related to the limitation of physical activity, a subjective feeling of overall health and emotional state.
When assessing the overall physical health subjects reached the level of 49.72 points and in assessing the overall mental health the average values reached 50.86 points. It follows that subjects evaluate their physical and mental condition similarly.
For the index of overall quality of life, the average level reached 100.58 points, which can be interpreted as the high quality of life.
