Abstract

The framework of the book is an analysis of Buddhist teachings, as given in the so-called Pali Canon. The basic philosophical difference between Buddhism and Christianity lies in the fact that Budddhism proceeds from Something to Nothing but the opposity of Christianity from Nothing to Something.

The book is found first overview of buddhological studies in Czech country. After an outline of the main Buddhist denominations the book describes in detail Buddhism in India, Ceylon, China, Japan, Thailand and Czech Republic.

Furthemore, the study addresses the current state of Buddhist higher education. The conclusion of the book consists of the evaluation of the relationship between Buddhism and Christianity.

Here is emphasized the inacceptability of Buddhist teachings for Christians, especially regarding the cyclicality of world events, about polytheism, denying the existence of God, the Incarnation in Jesus Christ, the doctrine of the Trinity and the immortality of the human soul.
