Physicians may be perceived as a relatively homogenous group of people, but with its own internal specificity, which may be influenced for example by demographic structure of physicians. The basic differences in sex and age structure by major medical specialties are followed relatively frequently in the literature.
Rarely, however, this numbers of persons are given in relation to the average amount of their workload, which varies according to age, gender and physician specialty. These differences can be monitored by using the database of the main Czech health insurance company that covers almost all physicians in the Czech Republic.
The findings can be useful for example for better planning of territorial access to health care, which mostly ignores these aspects.
