The main topic addressed in this conference paper is the National Maturita foreign language exam in the CR in terms of its main parameters (skills, items, level). The paper is focused on productive skills (speaking and writing), particularly on the criteria of assessment and their objectiveness.
Attention is also paid to preparing teachers for the new form of testing, analysing the problems associated with testing and ways to avoid such problems. The talk presents a hypothesis on the impact of the introduction of state leaving exam tests on methods and results of foreign language teaching, with a special focus on English.
Minor problems to be solved as a subject of further research are also mentioned in the paper.
