The study deals with the view of the Sorbs and Lusatias in general in the historiography of the first half of the 19th century. Their relation to the German ethnic group, or more precisely their role in the most ancient history of the land seems to be the most important.
The author analyses the view of German historians Christian Käuffer, Theodor Scheltz and Johann August Ernst Köhler, as well as of the polnish Wilhelm Bogusławski and also František Palacký and Pavel Josef Šafařík.
