On the Trail of a Hidden Reality: Jean Starobinski's performative hermeneutics.

Abstract

This study is about "performative hermeneutics", developed by the psychiatrist, medical historian and literary critic Jean Starobinski which interprets three types of extreme psycholog ical situations - delusion, possession, nightmares - as the expression of extreme alterity. For Starobinski especially art can reveal and examine this otherness while making it more understandable.
