Abstract

The book's focus is on a broader sphere of the visual culture with roots in tradition of caricature. It covers development of the pictorial humor and satire from the late 18th century to the early 20th century.

The book includes production of artists active in the Czech lands as as well as artists born there. It It is organised chronologically into 11 chapters and accompanied by two chapters: one on subjects and another one on use of the caricatures in both public periodicals and private milieu.

The book includes 380 illustrations with critical comment, mostly.
