Implacable or neccessary enemy? : The picture of the other religion during the christianization of Central Europe

Abstract

The study provides an alternative view on the course of the Christianization of Central Europe. The original thesis claiming the cultural rivalry between Christianity and pagan religious systems reaching the aggressive means of communication is going to be supplemented for more complete picture with the image of a conscious cooperation or certain "condescending ignorance" of the other.

At the same time the study draws attention to the fact that the second image was an important part of creating a religious identity. The study is trying to demonstrate that the violent events at the border of religions' relations occurred rather rarely.
