Abstract
The introductory chapter of the book presents theoretical strands of critical practice central to the conception of the volume (cultural materialism, new historicism, cultural studies), key questions and concepts (esp. circulation, representation, ideology). In the following part the argument of each of the essays in the book is outlined.
