One of the ways to explore Czech-Slovak relations is through the lens of mutual translation. Taking translation as a bridge between cultures (which is used by the translator to transfer her, culturally determined, interpretations of literary works that then start to live new lives in the new "home" culture), the relationship between the two cultures or two ethnic groups can be thought of as a relationship between a "collage" of the literary works translated" and the native literature of the receiving culture.
It is my contention that such a relationship can also indirectly provide information about the general relations between the two cultures or ethnic groups in question - in our case the Czechs and Slovaks. My aim is therefore to gradually compile an analysis of mutual translation between Czech and Slovak for the 19th and 20th centuries.
