Human Protection in Emergencies in Curriculum and Educational Reality in Primary and Secondary Schools

Abstract

The paper deals with current issues of integrating health education into curriculum of elementary and secondary schools, in particular it focuses on issues of reaching educational goals in the thematic field Human Protection in Emergency. It presents chosen outcomes of a long-term research conducted at Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University Prague.

The research is based on analyzing data collected at schools with the aim to increase quality of teacher training. At some basic schools, gymnasiums and secondary vocational schools the following aspects were analyzed: ways of integrating Protection in Emergency into school educational programs, the level of pupils' knowledge and their abilities and competences of teachers needed to teach according to the current curriculum.

Combining quantitative and qualitative research methods helped to identify several weaknesses in teacher training and the related fact that schools underestimate importance of these issues.
