Hippopotamus as Part of the Nile Mosaic

Abstract

This poster offers a view into the representation and importance of the hippopotamus as part of the Nile mosaic. The hippopotamus was part of the Egyptian ecosystem for thousands of years.

The motif of the hippopotamus was quite frequent in all historical periods. In every historical period, there were certain types of findings.

It continues too in the Roman period through the representation the Nile landscape on the roman mosaics. My goal is look into continuity between the representation of the hippopotamus in ancient Egypt and Roman period within the ecosystem of the Nile and his influence on the motif of the Nile landscape represent the Nile mosaic.
