ECMO (Extracorporal Membrane Oxygenation) is a device for artificial blood oxygenation in acute and emergency situations of failing lungs (Veno-venous) and heart (Veno-arterial)... Even with veno-venous setup there is a lot of possible settings with a number of possible complications.
Because of that ECMO is used in urgent cases, precise knowledge of the system and fast reactions are crucial for patient survival. Tyhe goal of the research is to develop a computer simulation application, which demonstrates basic system functions and imitates its failures and patophysiological reactions of the patient.
This paper describes development of underlying mathematical model developed in Modelica language.
