An introductory chapter of the critical edition of diaries of professor J. Charvát of 1945.
The introduction puts private entries in the diary into a broader context, both as far as private life and professional carreer of professor Charvát, namely his activities in the General Hospital in Prague and at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, are concerned. All above mentioned contexts are studied within a rather short, but extremly important transitional period between the last weeks of Nazi occupation, the May Uprising in Prague and following months of reconstruction, rich in dramatical events.
