Psychotropic drugs increase risk for a number of forms of sexual dysfunction. These are routinely considered in adults but may be less routinely considered in children.
The most serious, priapism, could cause long-term harm and lead to erectile dysfunction. Recurrent, prolonged, and painless erections have been recognized as a precursor to priapism.
To improve awareness of pediatric psychotropic risk for priapism, we report a case of frequent, prolonged erections in a prepubertal boy while receiving atomoxetine with either risperidone or aripiprazole. His parents documented permission for this report.
