Fosfomycin in the treatment of urinary tract infections

Abstract

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in adults are predominantly caused by E. coli, followed by staphylococci and other bacteria. This article deals in brief the molecule of fosfomycin, which is currently recommended as drug of choice in this indication.

Additionally, pharmacodynamic properties, EAU recommendations, risk of resistance and compliance to proposed therapy are discussed.
