The contribution analysis and compares input and output descriptive metadata in various stages of document processing and export and transformation of data. It shows the possibilities and limitations in the search for users on the example of the TEMAP project in the Czech Republic.
Cartographic documents are described in accordance with internationally accepted cataloguing standards in the interchange format MARC 21. The data entered in the bibliographic record by cataloger will not reach the user in full extent due to the SW limitations and language barriers.
These are solved by using numbers in the fields for mathematical data but the search only by scale and coordinates is geographically accurate but very poor in content. Another limitation for users arises when metadata are exported into repository, Georeferencer and map search portals.
The ideal is to seek a compromise between maximal range of descriptive metadata and mathematical data for search.
