Patient discontinuing treatment and criminal liability

Abstract

The article deals with book reviews Helen Krejčíková entitled "Ending a patient and physician criminal liability." At the outset article presents the problem of deciding questions concerning the end of life and maintaining or ending treatment with life-prolonging treatment with regard to ethical principles and the rights of patients. In that review is underscored by the fact the threat of legal sanctions of medical and economic aspects regarding restrictions on the costs of treatment.

Briefly, there is also introduced the author reviewed publications. Presented review also describes the author's publications aim, which is to analyze the real problems of practice.

Gradually, it presents a brief synopsis of each of the four chapters. The first chapter deals with the legal aspects of a patient discontinuing treatment, emphasizing respect for patient rights and current legislation.

In this context, there is the Institute outlined the problems previously expressed wishes. The second chapter describes and explains terms relating to euthanasia accompanied by examples of foreign practice.

The third chapter explains the concepts - futile treatment and rationing. The last chapter deals with the question of termination of instrumental support of vital functions, stating several examples of foreign practice.

Finally there is a solution reality Czech environment issues stopping treatment patients.
