The author presents a case of solitary bone cyst in a 16-year-old patient. It is an nonepithelial lined fluid-filled or empty lesion of the bone.
The pathogenic mechanism is truly unknown. The previous belief in a traumatic etiology has no scientific basis.
It seems more likely that the solitary bone cyst represents a disturbance in the remodeling of trabecular bone related to biochemical or hormonal changes during the teen years. The treatment involves certain surgical procedures.
The prognosis for a simple bone cyst is generally good.
