Abstract
Surgical treatment of gastric cancer remains the essential therapeutic option, giving hope of long term survival to patients. Recently, the technique of endoscopic mucosal resection of clearly defined early gastric tumours was described.
Both methods have curative potential. In advanced or metastatic cancers, where is no chance for cure, palliative surgery can improve the quality of life, especially in terms of enabling fluid and food intake orally.
