Anaesthetic management of the hypotonic uterus

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2015

Abstract

Uterine hypotony/atony is the most common cause of life-threatening peripartum bleeding. The article presents information on the current treatment approaches for this serious complication.

The pharmacological properties of the uterotonic agents are discussed in detail. Their incorrect administration may paradoxically lead to a deterioration in the critical condition.

We also emphasize the need for concurrent interdisciplinary co-operation in the management of uterine hypotony/atony.
