Guidelines for Diagnosing and Treating Asthma

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen |
2015

Abstract

The new national Czech quidelines for diagnosing and treating asthma is based on the pragmatic concept, assessing for the presence of eosinophilia and allergy in each asthmatic patient. The guideline defines three clinically relevant asthma phenotypes: I. eosinophilic allergic, II. eosinophilic non-allergic and III. non-eosinophilic non-allergic asthma.

As well as classifying asthma by the level of control, the classification of asthma by severity, determined by the amount of medication needed to achieve full control, is maintained. The resulting multi-function classification describing the severity, the level of control and phenotype, is the starting point for a comprehensive treatment strategy, including the widening options of phenotype- targeted therapy.
