Abstract

Recent research suggests that people choose romantic partners based on self-similarity, or homogamy, and that higher level of homogamy increases relationship quality. Nevertheless, it is not clear whether homogamy would apply also to characteristics, such as gender roles, in particular in same-sex couples.

The main aims of this study were to a) test for homogamy of gender roles (or masculinity-femininity) in long-term male same-sex couples, and b) examine whether this similarity predicts higher relationship satisfaction.
