Abstract
This introductory chapter to the volume on Tackling the Complexity in Speech introduces complexity as inherent characteristic of the speech signal and of human speech behaviour. It uses the parallel with a doorframe to delineate the three structural components of tackling complexity - the discovery, organization and modelling of complexity.
