The fortress in Horoušany

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2015

Abstract

The paper tries succesfully to give evidence for existing a fortress in the village of Horoušany using archive research. We can not see any relicts of the fortress in the terrain, because the landscape was seriously damaged during the Thirty Years War (the village of Horoušany became extinguished during the war and it took a long time to restore it).

But a huge celllar with a late gothic door portal has been discovered during the research. This portal and the cellar could be possibly related to the fortress (subsequent mainly archaeological and geophysical searching is necessary).

The fortress was probably established at the latest arond the end of 14th century, but soon (presumably) stopped functioning as a lower nobility seat - it seems that it happened during the 15th century. The fortress is in 1636 mentioned as "totally fired with collapsed walls".
