Abstract
The article aims to be a short introduction to the Croatian literary tradition of 19th century and its tendency to balance between two models; the geopolitically-oriented national philology and authority of global western-centred literary canon. The interpretation is based on deconstructive concept of Pascale Casanova's "The World Republic of Letters".
