PISEK BETWEEN THE WARS. THE ROLE OF MYTHS IN THE FORMATION OF A SMALL TOWN IDENTITY

Publication |
2012

Abstract

The town of Pisek played a historical role of the natural centre of the South-Bohemian Prachen region, an area along the Otava River. In the period of the First Republic, Pisek presented itself as a mature and state-forming town.

In the absence of major industry, Pisek has built its identity on its strong cultural traditions and the development of tourism. The image of the town was formed by help of Pisek's specifics and the traditional labels, which the town intentionally used to present and promote itself: Pisek - the town of forests, Pisek - the town of schools and students/South-Bohemian Athens, Pisek - the town of pensioners/Pensionopolis, Pisek - the Mekka of violinists.
