Abstract

The National Theatre in Prague with its basic artistic units, such as opera, drama and ballet, represents one of the top cultural institutions, that has its solid position among the representatives of European as well as Word culture, as all scientists and researchers from different scientific orientations unanimously agree. His gigantic unit, comprising music, drama, literature and fine arts creates permanently dramatic environment, dynamizing opinions and creative inventions of all interested artists on stage and blind stage, and inspires and motivates the audience towards reflex and cognition.

This situation, whose form and content is made by the relationship between the stage, i.e. the space filled with creative effort of artists to interpret truthfully historical as well as cotemporary reality, and the auditorium, where spectators perceive, learn and cultivate themselves and their personality, has been existing since the very beginnings of human civilization. This study aids to describe the life and artistic works of the National Theatre in Prague, one of the prominent national and cultural institutions, during the most difficult time of the Czech national, time of forthcoming nazism and German occupation.
