The article discusses the importance of calcium intake in postmenopausal women. There are analyzed the metabolism of calcium and factors regulating bone density.
It includes information describing the impact of aging on metabolism and deposition of calcium in bone mass, as one of the fundamental changes in the ontogenetic development of organisms women. With the associated risk of calcium deficiency in the supporting apparatus, which is the cause of the high incidence of osteoporosis over the age of 50 and, hence, the importance of optimal intake of calcium, both nutritional and through supplementation, which has been cited studies proved to be effective.
In addition to factors affecting calcium absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, are given useful indications for supplementation recommended.
